Eating local for 1 month, here is to a great day 5 of the challenge! Brouwer Berries in Raymond, MN here we come! Thank you MN Grown directory for helping me find a listing for strawberries in the area.
Breakfast Day 5: 2 delicious farm fresh eggs from Chick-No Coupe Ranch and breakfast sausage from Pastures A Plenty.
Note to self, call before you drive to a farm to pick anything- I guess they were closed- Oops! I was disappointed to not pick up strawberries as I had big plans for them. I stopped by the County Stop Produce Stand in Willmar and asked some questions. I was presently surprised to find out that a small farmer grows each the beautiful products that are available at the Country Stop. However, The current produce comes from Wisconsin & on account of being held accountable by this blog I chose to walk away. It was so difficult to walk away from all those luscious berries. I hope to find some MN berries in the area in the next few days.
Lunch Day 5: After having a later breakfast and wanting a break from cooking It was a grazing kind of lunch throughout the afternoon. It included a scrumptious artisan bread that a friend’s mom had made this morning- Thank you Nancy, now you will have to teach me your bread making ways! Strawberries, pepper jack cheese, beats & radishes were also part of the spread.
Dinner Day 5: Savory polenta & sautéed spinach- It tastes much better than it sounds!
The yogurt turned out pretty well. I added vanilla, local honey and strawberry jam to the batch before serving. The yogurt did get the approval from two little guys (Elliot and his friend Hokon) who even slurped up every drop spilled on the table!
After washing about four full large ziploc bags of lettuce, a ton of radishes, making dinner, washing and chopping rhubarb l I was exhausted. However, I still needed to do something with the rhubarb & we were out of bread. Thanks to the Internet, I found a simple rhubarb pie and crust recipe that I made and also made another loaf of bread ready for the oven tomorrow morning.
Going to bed happy, tired and full!
